Fans of thrillers and horror movies can sink their teeth into a new juicy crime drama series based on one of the genre’s classics: The Silence of the Lambs.
The series will offer a deep dive into the story of Clarice Starling, as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high stakes political world of Washington, D.C.
Fans of the classic film will need to wait before getting their best Hannibal impressions out though, as a writing room was only just established and a series commitment is yet to be decided, according to Deadline.
With writing underway, auditions will begin soon to cast the main roles including the lead character of Clarice Starling. Naturally, people have already began to speculate about who could take the coveted title role after such a stellar performance in the original film from Jodie Foster.
Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, creators of the anticipated series, said: “After more than 20 years of silence, we’re privileged to give voice to one of America’s most enduring heroes – Clarice Starling.
Clarice’s bravery and complexity have always lit the way, even as her personal story remained in the dark. But hers is the very story we need today: her struggle, her resilience, her victory. Her time is now, and always.”
Silence Of The Lambs
The Silence of the Lambs story was published in 1988 and the movie adaptation starring Jodie Foster as Clarice hit cinemas in 1991. It raked in the awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Jodie Foster’s performance. However the awards weren’t enough to bring Foster back for the next film, with Julianne Moore cast as Clarice for the 2001 sequel film Hannibal.
This isn’t the first time a series hinged on the hardworking FBI officer Clarice Starling has been planned however, back in 2012 a series created by MGM and Lifetime was planned but failed to go ahead.
Here’s hoping it makes it past the pilot this time around.
