Emilia Clarke Wants To Play First Female James Bond

"It's a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he's been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman."

Talks of a female Bond have been hotting up in recent months, particularly after Killing Eve and Fleabag writer and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge signed up to polish the script of the 25th 007 movie.

And while we know Daniel Craig will be reprising his role as the titular character in No Time To Die, this will be his last time portraying the British spy, leaving a space wide open for a newbie to enter.

Could it be the right fit for the Mother of Dragons? Emilia certainly thinks so. Sitting down with Empire, who asked whether she’d be keen for the job, the Daenerys Targaryen actress said: “Yeah! Of course! Hell to the yeah! James Bond is one of those franchises where it’s never not cool.

“You could literally make the naffest James Bond in the world and it would still be cool.”

Sounds like a challenge to me, but we’ll see.

Emilia’s enthusiasm arrives several months after rumours pointed towards Lashana Lynch as the first in line to take over the mantle.

Speaking about the Captain Marvel star – who has a role in No Time To Die – a Hollywood insider told the Mail on Sunday: “There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, ‘Come in 007,’ and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman.

Daniel Craig
“Bond, of course, is sexually attracted to the new female 007 and tries his usual seduction tricks, but is baffled when they don’t work on a brilliant, young black woman who basically rolls her eyes at him and has no interest in jumping into his bed. Well, certainly not at the beginning.”

This is all just speculation at this stage, although if it were to happen and either Lashana or Emilia took on the role, Craig has given his blessing, adding that it’s time for the character to be diversified.

He said: “I think that everybody should be considered. Also for women and for African-Americans, there should be great parts anyway, across the board.”

Looks like a female Bond isn’t beyond the realms of possibility in the years to come. Watch this space!
